Most people who are thinking about starting a small business think about accounting. In fact, it’s the furthest from anyone’s mind when they are dreaming about their business. But it is probably one of the most important components of your business.
This is also something most people don’t think about, but if you are going to have property, employees or clients, you will want to get some kind of commercial insurance. If you have a company that requires delivery, you can get cheap commercial truck insurance if you are just starting out. But as you go along, it will get more expensive.
You will most likely need a business license to operate. Even if you are taking advantage of the many internet business opportunities online, you may need a home office license from your city. At the very least, you want to register your name so no one else can take it.
In addition, to open a business bank account where your business can be a payable for checks and other money transactions, you need to register your business name and get a license. It’s a basic item you need in starting a small business.
Employees or No Employees
If you are running a cafe or restaurant, there is no question that you will need to hire employees. But if you are running say a consulting firm, you may be able to do it yourself. There are a lot of legal and tax implications to hiring employees so make sure you are abreast of all the latest requirements on that before you begin.
