There’s a big misconception between weight training, body building or Olympic weightlifting which belongs to sports category. Weight training can be described as all exercises that are designed to increase physical strength and keep your body fit. There is also training for flexibility like yoga and for endurance, we have aerobic exercises.
Before starting weight training exercises, warm up is crucial and highly encouraged. A 10 to 20 minute warm-up should be enough. Many don’t know the true meaning and importance of warming up and end up hurting themselves in the process. The purpose of warming up is to reduce muscle soreness and increase your strength by pumping up some adrenaline. It includes breathing and some forms of stretching, and these things should be done prior to and right after training.
Never forget to warm-up the muscle group that you intent to work out. If you plan on working on your legs, then do leg warm ups so you can make the particular muscle group more flexible and reduce strain. Stretching before and after starting weight training will reduce muscle soreness. Note that muscle soreness will keep you away from working out for days or even weeks as some people’s recovery rate are slower than others.
You can also make use of some weights like dumbbells and barbells to increase practical strength. If you’re conscious about how your body looks, then these isolation exercises will do the trick. Body fats are stored energy, and by using weights, you can lose lots of fats. More muscle means you burn more calories as you work. Muscles consume more calories than fats.
Pain is a sign to stop. To prevent possible injuries, whenever you feel pain, give your body a rest. The term “no pain, no gain” is not applicable all the time, especially in weight training as the pain maybe a sign of grave muscle tissue injury.
