Can Running Hurt Your Back or Not?

People associate sports with good health and the proper lifestyle. And rightly so, since doing regular exercises or workouts could definitely lead to an improved state of health and a better lifestyle overall. These days, there seems to be a lot more people who are becoming aware of how important a healthy lifestyle is, and as result they are exercising more and eating and living healthier. It also helps that there are more workouts and programs available today. But in the midst of all of those new options, one of the oldest and most basic exercise is still is the best, and that is running. Running is actually the choice of millions of fitness buffs and it is not difficult to see why. It offers all kinds of benefits while also providing an enjoyable and relatively uncomplicated workout.

Realizing what running can do for me, while also being decided about a healthier, much better lifestyle was my reason for choosing to run. Not being a fitness and work out buff by any stretch before I started running regularly, I admittedly had some rough moments at the start. But I persevered, knowing that it would only be a matter of a time before I can really get the hang of it, which I eventually did. So I eventually became used to the whole experience of running, and before long I was enjoying it much more than I did at the beginning. However, running obviously has some ill effects and cause some discomfort. This usually happens when there is a mistake being committed by the runner, which leads to the discomfort.

Running and Back Pain

Among the several physical discomforts that are said to be caused by running is back pain. Of course, runners are not the only ones who experience it but it is a concern when it is experienced when the runner is actually in the process of running. So can running hurt your back or not? Many actually complain of it, but the question is the extent of the damage that it can cause, if any. Let’s find out from the following, which are possible reasons for experiencing pain at the back.

• Spinal Alignment – When you run, you’d like to keep your abdominals as straight as possible. Minimize any inward curve to the lower spine. Keep your back straight while you are running, relaxing the arms and shoulders as well stretching the torso fully.

• Core Strength – Strengthening the core is a key part of avoiding any back pain during running. There are many large muscles there, and making it stronger, particularly the back and abdominals, will surely help.

• Running Shoes – There is no need to punish your feet by continually wearing your running shoes, even long after it has broken down. The insole usually breaks down after about 500 miles of use, so that is the time to replace it.
